How Harry Potter conventions took over my life

In a few days, I leave for Los Angeles - a city where I've barely spent a cumulative 10 days in my life. I know its geography about as well as that of Mars. 


And yet in a very real sense, I'm going home.


Specifically, I'm going to LeakyCon - a Harry Potter convention established in 2009 that I now work for, unpaid, as social media coordinator. 


This is my 10th year of attending Potter conferences, which have become a way of life.



"What's a Harry Potter convention?" you might ask. "Do you just watch the movies all day?" The answer is no - well, with the possible exception of Azkatraz, a con in 2009 during which the movies played on the hotel TV channel in the background.  Read more...

Virtual reality app lets you meet others in imaginary places

Next to full body sensor suits, one of the main components missing from virtual reality experiences is the ability to share experiences with others


Now a new app called vTime hopes to bridge that gap by giving users full VR character avatars that can interact with each other in virtual environments in real-time



All you need to engage in a vTime VR chat is a smartphone and the Samsung Gear VR headset or a Google Cardboard device

Trump blasts Cruz on Twitter over Canadian birth and campaign loans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Donald Trump took to Twitter to flay Ted Cruz on Saturday morning, just hours before the pair of GOP front-runners are set to square off at a Tea Party event in early-voting South Carolina.

Trump ripped Cruz for his Canadian birth and undisclosed campaign loans, before blasting Cruz's attacks on "New York values" in a series of tweets.

Trump kept up questions on whether Cruz's birth in Canada disqualifies him to be president, alluding to previous warnings that lawsuits could bring him down and the GOP with him if he's the nominee. Read more...
